UK 1997 108 mins
Martin Sherman, author of the play Bent, introduces this screening of the film version of his play at the Outsiders Film Festival to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. In Berlin, the so-called ‘decadence’ of the 1920s has come to an abrupt end: the NAZI regime has arrived. Two homosexual lovers are betrayed, and find themselves on the way to a concentration camp where, as we discover, being lesbian or gay is a virtual death sentence. With a strong cast and a passionate theatricality, Bent is simply not to be missed if you’ve never seen it before – and this screening will be followed by a Q&A with playwright and screenwriter Martin Sherman.
